In this chapter of the novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett we witness Hilly and Skeeter's
relationship. The relationship between the two is not a positive one. It is clear that there is a bit of
tension between the two due to their completely different personalities. In the novel the character
named Skeeter is a young white female who is quiet, sweet, respectful, and treats everyone nicely.
However Hilly is a liar and is manipulative and likes to get her own way at any cost.
In my life I have met and surrounded myself with many different types of people. No matter
their age, sex, or ethnicity some turned out to be not what they had claimed. My childhood best
friend and I were always very close until there came a time were we had to go our separate ways. I
have always been a very respectful, trustworthy, and sweet person. I was always under the
impression that he was the same. One day I found out “through the grape vine” that he had been
spreading a false rumor about me. I was very hurt and disgusted by his behavior. The person that I
had given my trust and told everything to, thinking that he had my best interest at heart and was my
best friend was nothing more than a liar. It may seem as though this was a negative event, but in all
honesty and truth I see this as a positive. I learned to trust no one but me.
